As part of its regular activities, KEEP regularly holds “Reading Hours” with students at their various reading rooms.
Currently, we has 3 rooms and most Saturdays, tends to have activities with the students at the rooms with the objective of getting them used to being a space dedicated to reading, pique their interest in reading and help them improve their reading skills. Of course, we have fun together with other educational activities like clay craft, word puzzle, arts and painting, etc.
In May 2017, a team of volunteers from one of KEEP’s strong partners’ PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) came by the room to give a few hours of their time to working with the kids on various activities.
The team was led by Mrs. Sophie Kayemba Mutebi, a Tax Manager, who also champions PwC Liberia’s Corporate Responsivity, Diversity & Inclusion programs. She was accompanied by Veronica Annan Dadzie, Marius Kodjo Bah, and Arabella Reed.
Veronica took charge of the early learners and captivated their attention with several stories. The children enjoyed the stories so much they literally held her hostage on the carpet begging “one more aunty Vicky, one more!” and she obliged them for 2 full hours!
On the other side of the room, Marius Kodjo Bah who hails from Togo proved to be a very keen tutor and made each student in his group read a passage from the book they were reading titled the Elephant and the Lion. We teased Marius that he missed his true calling-teaching- as he was very patient and calm while dealing with the young ladies.
Sophie showed her skills while working with the 1st and 2nd graders in reading and writing new words. She listened to the children read, and helped them learn several new words- how to recognize the words, pronounce them and the meaning and usage.
Despite it being Araballa’s first visit to the room, she wasted no time in becoming familiar with the activities and quickly jumped in to work with a curious 3rd grader called Otis who was determined to learn how to do word puzzles. She helped teach he and the older boys in the computer room how to search for words when doing word puzzles and helped them with the pronunciation and meaning of some.
PwC is committed to helping Liberian children become more articulate, confident, and all round young archivers under the Listen! I Can Read Project at KEEP’s reading rooms.
On the other hand, PwC has also opened its Business School offering professional courses in the fields of audit and accounting, tax & legal, and business advisory. The PwC Business School is located at its offices on 9th Street, Payne Avenue in Sinkor.

In 2016 when we dedicated this room, PwC was the kind donor of the paint and furniture for the room. We recall when they bought nearly all of their Liberia country office staff to support with the painting.
