The 9th of April turned out to be a memorable day for the Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP) family when internationally renowned Professional Services Firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) made a donation of furniture to the local charity organization towards their first early childhood resource center on Duport road.
The donation comprising of 12 kiddies chairs, 4 early learners tables desks, 3 large bookshelves, 10 computer desks with chairs along with all of the painting needed to complete the building. The donation is valued at US$2,000.
Not only did PwC make this generous donation to KEEP, but saw this as an opportunity to allow its partners and staff to give back to the community by volunteering several hours of their valuable time worth more than US$5,000 to painting the building themselves.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) is an international firm in 158 countries, 756 locations. PwC is the largest professional services firm in the world and is one of the Big Four. It has been ranked as the most prestigious accounting firm in the world for seven consecutive years, as well as the top firm to work for in North America for three consecutive years. Named in 2015 as the 2nd most attractive employer in the world for business students, the firm also recently opened offices in Liberia and so far, PwC is currently the only Big 4 firm operating in Liberia. PwC is already making headways in the country and reaching ordinary Liberians as part of the organization’s Social Corporate Responsibility program.
Making remarks on behalf of the company Madam Sophie Kayemba Mutebi, Tax Manager, and also Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Diversity & Inclusion at PwC Liberia conveyed her sincere gratitude to PwC and KEEP for making this project possible. She noted that as a professional services firm, a part of their goal is to ensure that the lives of Liberian children and youth are positively impacted wherever they are located. She noted that they at PwC are happy to be a part of supporting efforts in making Liberian children the leaders they want to be which is line with their purpose of building trust in society and solving important problems. She urged them to make use of the reading room, the computers, and the facilities as a whole to better themselves.
Making remarks on behalf of KEEP, its founder and Executive Director, Madam Brenda Brewer Moore thanked PwC for its support to the organization for the donation of the furniture and paint and noted that the donation could not have come at a better time as they are at the final stage of completing their first resource center and needed the furniture and paint to finish up the project. She noted that she was very impressed with the company for not just believing in a local non-profit organization and making the generous donation, but also seeing the number of employees who had come out to help paint the building as a means of giving back to underprivileged communities. She noted that their actions truly exemplified their core values of leadership and teamwork. She noted that not many companies give back to the communities and found PwC’s actions laudable. She hopes other professional companies in Liberia will emulated by this.
The day was highlighted with hardwork, teamwork and fun as everyone joined efforts and within 2 hours, the resource center was painted.
KEEP is a local non-profit organization operating at the grassroots level in 3 counties in Liberia (Grand Gedeh, Gbarpolu & Montserrado) and focuses on providing various support in the education sector, particularly at the primary school level. KEEP also engages in women & girls’ empowerment, economic livelihood, access to justice, promotion of rights in schools, strengthening youth education through computer and reading literacy programs, child sponsorship and advocacy.
