The Kids Educational Engagement Project (KEEP) kicks off a new reading promotion pilot project called “Read 2 Ride” at 4 locations in Liberia.
The project gears towards evaluating how many more students will commit time to read if given an incentive to ride a bicycle.
Many families have limited disposable income for “luxury” items like a bicycle and as such cannot afford to purchase a bike for their kids.

Read 2 Ride provides a fun way for community kids who don’t usually have access to a bicycle to ride one after a reading session.
Each child has to commit to at least 1 hour each week and one book each week. KEEP’s goal is to get them at least 25 hours of reading over the next 6 months which will be tracked.
Top performers stand to win prizes including a bike, tablets, field trip, bags, etc.
The pilot project will run at 3 locations in Montserrado and 1 location in Cape Mount County.
Parents are encouraged to sign their kids up. Montserrado locations for the project are:
- JLM public school (Gbengbar Town)
- Baptist Seminary Dan McNaughton Reading room
- YWCA -Carlton Carr Memorial Reading room
There is no fee to participate in the Read2Ride Project and interested parents can sign up their kids by sending an email to: info@keeplib.org.
This pilot project is made possible through the partnership of the Dan Mcnaughton Foundation as well as the Open Society Initiative for West Africa/ Open Society Foundation.
