In a bid to provide continued support to schools in Liberia, KEEP with support from ActionAid Liberia (AAL) officially handed over the newly completed annex of the Farwhenta Public School in Gbarpolu County on March 16, 2018. The completion of this school’s annex by KEEP came against the backdrop of repeated pleas from the community which is experiencing a sharp increase in pupils enrollment particularly at the early primary level owing to a number of targeted interventions ranging from oral dental hygiene outreach programs, back to school book bag distribution, involvement of mothers in skills training opportunities and child sponsorship initiatives.
This newly constructed annex brings to four of such educational related facilities constructed by KEEP in the Gbarpolu County which ranks at the lowest ebb of the educational ladder.
The dedication and turning over ceremony attracted major stakeholders in the area including the school’s PTA chairperson, CEO, District Education Officer (DEO), Acting County Superintendent, amongst others.
The County Education Officer Mr. Danwolo B.S. Catakaw, who has been keenly following the activities of KEEP in the County noted in his speech that, “what I see here today is not a surprised event about KEEP. They are the ones buttressing Government efforts in this County particularly in the education of our children. I want to use this occasion to thank KEEP and urged our other development partners to emulate their example.” In his statement, the Acting County Superintendent Mr. William S. Mulbah, who “thanked the KEEP family and ActionAid for the overwhelming support in the education sector of Gbarpolu, especially Bopolu District and quickly mentioned that he has been following KEEP’s positive development records in the various communities”.
He further appealed to the community to properly maintain the structure for the benefit of their children. On his part, the District Education Officer, Mr. Charles Kaba proudly asked the audience to give an applause to ActionAid and KEEP for a job well done and declared to the community that he anticipates having Farwenta School elevated from elementary to junior high because of the way the town is very engaged with the education of their children. He then appealed to KEEP to continue extending helping hands to other undeserved communities across the County for progress uniformity.
The vote of thanks was given by student Ballah Armah a 7th grade student of the school who said “we are really happy for not jst this support, but all of the interventions by KEEP in our school and community over the years. Thanks also to our very active PTA who care about our education and continue to push ahead to make things happen for our school.”
