On Saturday April 17, 2021, the Kids’ Educational Engagement Project (KEEP) graduated from its first Cohort twelve (12) kids from its computer literacy program at the Mark Carlton Carr Reading Room situated at the YWCA at the Oldest Congo town in Monrovia. The basic introduction to computer was conducted over an 11 week period which commenced in January 2021. The students ages ranged from 9 to17 years.
Graduates were given the opportunity to do individual PowerPoint slideshow & Ms WORD presentations of what they learnt displaying during the period to their parents and well wishers present.
Making remarks at the program, Madam Wadei Powell, Founder of UFOUND Solutions Group, expressed gratitude to KEEP for its continued hard work in Liberia. She commended the organization for its commitment to developing the minds of future leaders of Liberia and noted that with Liberia being so far behind in technology, there is a need that we all invest in the young generation.
Ms. Olive Taylor, a parent of one of the graduates also commended KEEP for its efforts and said how excited she was to learn of the program. A staunch supporter of the organization, Ms. Taylor noted it was through collective efforts the story of Liberia would change. “collective efforts and supporting home grown solutions and efforts of organizations like KEEP”.
Also speaking at the program was Ms. Mmonbeydo Joah who had enrolled her two kids in the program. She noted how proud she was of the kids and how much they themselves had been enthusiastic about the weekly lessons and would be eager for the classes and would use her computer to practice the lessons each week. She said she was out of high school before she learned how to use a computer and feels proud that her 9 year old son is now able to create documents, do basic typing and prepare a PowerPoint presentation.
The program was colorful with parents, guardians and well wishers being a part of the occasion. Graduates were later certificated, and photographs taken.
On her part, Mrs. Brenda Brewer Moore, Executive Director of KEEP thanked Ufound Solution Group and Madam Wadei Powell for her continued support over the years and for her generosity in donating 17 computers used to kickstart the computer training program . She further added that “ KEEP conducts computer classes around the country: in Rivercess, Gbarpolu and Grand Gedeh and with the plans to further extend her activities to other counties”. The Executive Director thanked parents and encouraged them to ensure that their kids practice what has being learnt. She informed the parents that’s there are increase numbers of classes that would be coming up in the future giving opportunities to public schools in Montsderado County.
The classes were led by their peers Ransford Moore and Lela Wapoe.
