The KEEP Liberia basic computer literacy program Phase 1 kicked off in December of 2023, targeting students from Public schools, private schools, and the community, and empowering them with free Basic Computer Literacy skills. Beneficiaries had little to no knowledge of computer operations.
The Computer program is designed by the Kids’ Educational Engagement project to educate students with requisite computer knowledge that gives them the platform to advance themselves through digital literacy. The program is structured to cover key topics, including an introduction to computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentations, and other basic computer concepts.
The Training was conducted at 4 locations in Montserrado for 3 months. The locations were June L Moore Public School, A Glenn Public School, CDB King Public School, and a KEEP’s reading room at YWCA, Congo Town.
On May 11, 2024, 100 students who completed the three months of intensive digital literacy program, and basic computer operations were certificated at the YWCA compound. The FREE basic computer literacy training began with 117 participants, and 100 students successfully completed the training, 75% of which were students from the three public schools.
At the graduation ceremony, students were able to demonstrate all that they had learned about the computer and computer operations. The parents, school administrations, and beneficiaries all expressed deep gratitude to KEEP for such an astounding and impactful initiative.
KEEP Liberia is proud of its intentional work over the years – working directly with elementary and high school students in providing them basic computer literacy skills. We have trained over 300 students in Microsoft Word, online research, etc, since we commenced our classes in 2016.
Our program in this area is made possible through the generosity of individuals and organizations like the Dan McNaughton Foundation, the Alice FERNEZIAN Foundation, and HEAL.
Thanks to COMAX Liberia, our partner on this project for the support and contributions.
The phase 2 of the computer literacy program will be announced soon on all our social media platforms and networks. Kindly stay tuned, sign your children up early, or recommend a child to benefit from the program. The training targets every child between the ages of 8 and 15 students who have no or very little digital literacy skills and it’s 100 % free.
In this age of technology, computer skills are key to excelling in schools and our way of life.
