Hello KEEPers.
Did you know that KEEP turns 10 this year? How exciting! KEEP-Liberia celebrates 10 years of promoting a reading culture in Liberia and impacting the lives of children across Liberia.
Here’s a summary of our work over the last three months of January, February and March of 2024. KEEP continued the operations of the computer literacy program that has 100+ current students, 25% from private schools and the community, and 75% from three public schools. We are if not only, one of the few institutions providing free basic computer training for public school students.
Two teachers’ trainings were conducted in January and March of 2024, where teachers and KEEP’s reading club facilitators were trained in the reading modules and reading components.
The second Chance accelerated learning program with Luminos Fund continued its phase-II course where KEEP coordinates 30 classes in two counties, Montserrado and Gbarpolu.
The first phase of the 4th year of the She-Leads project with PLAN International has commenced and we are glad to have welcomed our new Youth Engagement Officer, Ms. Felicia Danielle Pitt, who is serving as lead on the project.
In January, we launched our 35th Reading Room at the Kendeja Elementary and Junior High school. This reading room is sponsored by Book-Aid International and serves as a reading Hub for the students and the community. A new reading club is established and now in full effect along with 8 other active reading clubs in Montserrado, Nimba and Gbarpolu Counties.
Our resource and digital center in Nimba county is very active with over 50 students benefiting from the computer program and many more students and the community accessing the reading rooms at JW Pearson High School and Kpoapa Public school.
In March, KEEP receive recognition and awards from the Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia for exceptional work towards the educational sector of Liberia.
The Read2ride program has been launched and is currently ongoing at the June L. Moore Public School.
Interns who have completed their internship were certificate and appreciated by the Executive Director.
The team embarked on restocking of all KEEP’s Montserrado reading rooms with new books and resource materials for the school and the students usage.
The Body Autonomy Awareness is being conducted in public schools, using the ‘my body, my treasure’ KEEP reader as guide to help children understand their bodies, abuse and how to report abuse.
The team conducted an assessment in Lofa County in early March of 2024. Good news from Lofa to be announced soon.
With your generous contributions, we intend to continue the formation of new reading rooms across Liberia and expand our coverage areas.
By making a donation, you can help us ignite a passion for reading and learning across Liberia.
Together, we can break the barriers of illiteracy and open doors for Liberian children to thrive. Let’s partner to create a nation where every child is opportune to read, learn and achieve their dreams. Thank you, fellow KEEPers, for being a part of this journey and supporting us over the years.
