In May 2019, twenty students (15 girls, 5 boys) took on an excursion to Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary which is located in Marshall City, Margibi County.
The purpose of the field trip was to give a few of the students – from two schools – the opportunity to learn about the importance of protecting wildlife, know what a sanctuary is, and meet some animals they only read about in books. It was also a great way to introduce them to the importance of Ecotourism.
The students were thrilled with the tour by Jessen, the very lively visiting Zoologist who showed them the various types of animals and their importance to the ecosystem. He further explained the importance of ecotourism to the economic development of a country pointing out some of the endangered species and the need to protect wildlife. It was a day of fun as the students touched and played with some of the animals.
