On February 27, 2016, the Executive Director of the United Nations Women visited Liberia and as part of her activities while here, she held discussions with a cross section of adolescent girls from around Montserrado and KEEP is happy and proud that two of the members of the Girls Forums we established and manage were able to come from Gbarpolu to be a part of the discussions.
Our reps were able to articulate some of the issues affecting their enrollment, retention and completion of school in the county such as the lack of high schools ( the county only has 2 high schools) which makes it hard to complete high schools as the location of the schools are very far from their communities. Lack of text books, female teachers, etc.
Besides beautifully articulating these issues, the girls got the opportunity to meet and interact with other girls from around the country and meet the UN Women Executive Director. It was a great exposure for them and they were glad that KEEP’s Founder accompanied them and ensure they networked as well.
Bravo Naomi & Korpo for ably representing your peers and the girls of Gbarpolu county!
